We are inspired by the inimitable Mary Douglas, reportedly a strong influence on Marshall McLuhan, who said that dirt is simply matter that is out of place. Dirt on your kitchen floor may be seen as a problem, for example, while the same matter under your tomato plants is — magically — transformed into soil. We think dirt is a pretty good metaphor for marketing because marketing is all about context too.
